Live at Hammersmith Odeon
Artist: Bruce Springsteen
$79. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Columbia Records

A 2017 Record Store Day release that we still have in stock. Hot on the heels of Springsteen's breakthrough record of "Born to Run" and appearing on Time and Newsweek magazines in the same week, Springsteen and the E Street Band set out to conquer England for the first time. This 1975 recording is the complete show with Bruce and the E Street Band. It opens with the piano acoustic "Thunder Road" and then romps through several Born to Run cuts like "She's the One" and "Jungleland". It includes an epic version of "Kitty's Back" and a great cover of "Quarter to Three". This may have circulated on bootlegs for years (you may have even paid this much or more for vinyl back in the day, with plain white labels, right?) but this is the remastered and cleaned up version released for the first time on vinyl. It sounds pretty sweet. It originally saw the Light of Day officially in the Born to Run 25th anniversary box set release, but in DVD and digital form. It's a 4 record set with a few liner notes from Bruce himself.

Justin Townes Earle's 2010 release on Bloodshot "Harlem River Blues" proves he is a budding superstar. Here is more from the Bloodshot website, "Justin Townes Earle is an anomaly. He’s Nashville North, all set up in lower Manhattan now, just like his hero Woody Guthrie, with twang and charm intact." This record also comes with a digital download and a bonus track "Mama Said".

In a world where rootsy, folk-like, Americana has made yet another resurrgence, Ha Ha Tonka should be mentioned more in conversations of bands with dudes who where vests and might play a banjo, or something. Here Come the Rattling Trees
Artist: High Llamas
$21. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Drag City Records

Sometimes we just let the professionals write these record descriptions. Here is the record release bio from Drag City themselves for this 2016 release from High Llamas. We were pleasantly surprised how good this record is. The Drag City press release: "The High Llamas return in triumph and evolution as well, with Here Come the Rattling Trees, a song-cycle that offers a peek into the Llamas' enchantingly breezy universe for the first time since 2011's Talahomi Way. Depicting a cast of characters as they live day-to-day amidst changing times in a British town, Here Come the Rattling Trees' day-dreamers come alive amidst the Llamas' signature sound, with classic touches of Wurlitzer, Fender Rhodes, acoustic guitar, and of course Sean O'Hagan's gentle vocals. Combining the slice-of-life perceptions of the Kinks and the mellow grooves of Stereolab (for whom Sean arranged many a jam), Here Come the Rattling Trees is a yearningly romantic listen, no matter what part of it you're listening to."

Houses of the Holy
Artist: Led Zeppelin

| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Atlantic (Reissue)

What is your favorite Led Zeppelin record? For some, it's "Houses of the Holy". This is the reissued and remastered version of Led Zeppelin's fifth record. It's really a nice blend of the bombast of the earlier material on I and II and the acoustic songs they recorded on III and IV. Includes "No Quarter", "Song Remains the Same", "The Crunge", "The Ocean" and the FM classic "Over the Hills and Far Away", to name a few. Isn't it time you replaced that old  copy you found at a garage sale or the CD with a pristine new remastered 180 gram vinyl? Just like the other Zeppelin reissues, this is remastered by Jimmy Page himself. Though it's not pictured, this does include the paper banner that went around the original copies. They are so hard to find on used copies, I bet you didn't even know these existed!

Images 13
Artist: Dex Romweber Duo
$17. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Bloodshot Records

Can we just say that Dex Romweber invented the Two Person Rock Show? With respect very much due, we're not talking about Everly Brothers or Simon and Garfunkel, we're talking the two person rock n roll band. The innovation began with his band Flat Duo Jets and inspired people like Scott Lucas (Local H), the Black Keys, and Jack White. White frequently cites Dex as an influence and has added Flat Duo Jets records to his site at Third Man. Trust us, when they are in stock, we'll have them here! In any event, this is the Dex Romweber Duo's 2014 release "Images 13" (Bloodshot Records). This, too, is primarily a two person band as it is Dex and Sara Romweber. Includes original songs by Dex as well as covers of Pete Townshend and Jackie DeShannon songs.

Indestructible Machine
Artist: Lydia Loveless
$16. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Bloodshot

There are not enough superlatives to describe this record. It's fantastic, one of the better releases of 2011 and almost a certain entry to our Top 10 records of the year. Lydia Loveless is a 21 year old ball of fire. Look out, now, look out! Think of a much more rocked out Neko Case with a little Patsy Cline thrown in for good measure. And if that wasn't cool enough, she has a song that kicks off side two titled, "Steve Earle". The Chicago Tribune's Greg Kot calls this record one of the best of 2011. Her band is tight and rockin' enough to kick just about anybody's asre. Find all the best new releases at Rediscover Records.

Introducing the Sonics
Artist: The Sonics
$23. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Sundazed

This is great garage rock from the Pacific Northwest that was awesome long before Grunge hit the scene in the 1990's. The Sonics were cranking out great garage music in the 1960's. Simple songs, originals and great covers played hard and fast. This record includes "Psycho", "Got your head on backwards" and "The Witch". Furthermore, we don't think The Sonics had Hermione Granger in mind when they recorded "The Witch". This originally appeared on the Jerden and find it here on Sundazed. The cover is replica of the original with the original liner notes by Jerry Dennen.

It's A World Of Love & Hope
Artist: Flat Five
$18. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Bloodshot Records

Easily one of our favorite records of 2016 and if you were to walk in at any given time, we might be playing this on the shop turntable. It's an amalgam of outstanding Chicago musicians who have been playing on and off together for years, while also performing with other bands. The line-up includes Kelly Hogan, Nora O'Connor, Scott Ligon, Casey McDonnough, and Alex Webster. The record includes some dark humor recorded under the guise of delicious pop production with harmonies that may remind you of the Beach Boys, Beatles, Monkees, or Mamas and Papas. Despite the world climate we may live in, you'll believe it is a world of love and hope after hearing this. Released on Bloodshot Records, this also includes a digital download of the record.

Led Zeppelin II
Artist: Led Zeppelin
$26. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Atlantic

The second release by England's Led Zeppelin. If such a thing as a sophomore slump was a thing in the late 1960's, Led Zeppelin completely debunked those thoughts with their second release, creatively titled "II". We speak of album art work, look at the gatefold of this release when you open it up. It really has this larger than life feel to it. At least to this listener it does. We all know the tracks on this record but from the opening riff of "Whole Lotta Love" to "Bring It On Home", this LP is quite a tour de force, mixing classic rock (except it wasn't known as "classic rock" then, it was just unbelievably good music), blues, crunchy guitars, and other influences. Find this in our new releases rack. This is the 2014 remaster and the single disc. These remasters sound great!

Let It Be
Artist: The Beatles
$24. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: Gently Used
Label: Parlophone (Reissue)

Let It Be is The Beatles last full-length album released while they were still a band, if you could even call them a band at this point. Recorded during their most tumultuous time as a combo, it was put on the shelf for several months before being released in 1970. These tracks were recorded before Abbey Road. Produced by Phil Spector.

Just to be clear, this is a Beatles reissue on vinyl. They were remastered and re-released on vinyl in November of 2012. They are the Parlophone pressings with the original song sequences as The Beatles intended them to be released.

Let It Be
Artist: The Replacements
$22. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Twin Tone (Reissue)

Often hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time, yet there are others who may not even call it the best Replacements album. Crazy! Originally released in 1984 on the Twin Tone label, this is where the Replacements began to leave some of their raunchy punk roots behind and began writing some really great songs. We say that as fans of the earlier material too, though. Includes "Answering Machine", "I Will Dare", "Unsatisfied", "Gary's Got A Boner" and even a cover of Kiss "Black Diamond". The photo, one of the more iconic in rock history, was shot on the Stinson's house in Minneapolis. Find this reissue in our New Vinyl rack.

The Letting Go
Artist: Bonnie Prince Billy
$18.98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Drag City

The bleak, sparse arrangements of a Bonnie 'Prince' Billy record, it's if "The Road" was set to music, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy records could be used at the soundtrack. A stretch? Perhaps, but there are great stories to be told in these pared down songs with very little instrumentation and backing vocal. Included on this record is "Love Comes to Me", "Cold & Wet", "Big Friday", "No Bad News", "The Seedling" and others. BPB is quite prolific so look for his other releases here and at other fine record shops.

Lifes Rich Pageant
Artist: REM
$19. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: IRS - UM

One of the great releases of 1986! Sure other notable music was released, but you can look that up yourself. Here is where REM really began to hit their stride while at the same time finding a little more commercial success without quite yet being billed as sell-outs. A very much more taboo term then than it is now. Regardless, this great little record includes "Begin the Begin", "I Believe", "Flowers of Guatemala", "Fall On Me" and the unlisted track was none other than their great cover of "Superman". This is the 2016 release, so yeah, let it sink in that this record was released 30+ years ago....

Live at San Quentin
Artist: Johnny Cash
$23. 98

Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Sundazed Reissue

This is the single record Sundazed reissue of the famed San Quentin concert by Johnny Cash. Sure, he panders to the captive audience but this is a powerhouse live setting. Includes the song "San Quentin", "Boy Named Sue" "Folsom Prison Blues" and the best version of the "Wreck of the Old 97" you'll ever hear. Listen at the break of "Old 97" and it's almost as if this music puts you on another plain, both musically and spiritually. Listen. Yeah, that's it. . . This is the classic original album reissued by those fine folks at Sundazed.

Lucky
Artist: Nada Surf
$17. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Barsuk

Sure, they had an alterna-hit in the 90's but this band is so much more. One of the more unheralded and underrated bands in all of pop music. Nada Surf released "Lucky" in February of 2009 as their 5th studio record. The album features testimonies from fans revolving around what the word "lucky" means to them. These are listed on the inner sleeve. This band has broadened their listening audience by featuring songs for this record in TV shows such as "One Tree Hill", "Heroes" and "How I Met Your Mother". Great pop music that we bet Nick Hornby will write about someday if he already hasn't.

Lungs
Artist: Big Black
$14. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Touch & Go

The incomparable. The legends. The natives of Evanston, Illinois. A band that was founded by the great Steve Albini. It's Big Black. This release is a re-issue from the original 1982 E.P. release by Big Black. Most of the instruments were recorded by Albini himself and was originally released on Ruthless Records. It was used primarily to recruit members to Big Black. Albini himself is less than thrilled with this release but don't let that stop you from getting this epic debut. This is a 6 song EP, that's "Extended Play", so back in the day, that meant it was longer than a 45rpm single yet not a full length record. Got it? Good.

Mirpoix & Smoke
Artist: Ben Weaver
$16. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Bloodshot

Here is what Bloodshot had to say about Ben: For Minnesota-native Ben Weaver, the follow-up to his lauded 2008 album, The Ax in the Oak, came from a somewhat unexpected series of life choices and experiences.

In the spring of 2009 Weaver decided to take some time away from touring to pursue his interest in food and cooking. It was while working as a prep and garde manger cook at a farm-to-table restaurant in Minneapolis, this album started to take shape: “Eventually the good songs started to come. Ones that felt real, had their own legs. They came like all good things do. When I ceased looking. Connected to my surroundings, my past, my life, for what it all was, without romanticizing what I thought it should or could be. I found a new perspective. Let the birds in my head fly free."

While The Ax in the Oak was more complex in its sound—the result of a collaboration between Weaver and Brian Deck (Califone, Iron and Wine)—Mirepoix and Smoke is a decidedly more bucolic affair; its songs are barely accompanied by more than Weaver’s guitar or banjo and his voice, allowing for a more sensory experience of Weaver’s signature lyrical poetics. You just don’t hear Mirepoix and Smoke—you smell it, taste it, feel it and see it.

Part indie, part lo-fi, thoughtful, and well worth the effort with each listen.

Son Volt returns in 2017 with a more rockin', more blusier, and more of a return to some of their earlier work. Led by Jay Farrar spins bleak tales with song titles like "Back Against the Wall", "The Storm", "Lost Souls", "Sinking Down" and others. Some may call Farrar one of the fathers of this later day alt-country movement and with this release, he sticks with the template, that is very sweet sounding to our ears.
