(See the More Oar tribute disc). "Oar" was released originally in 1969 and was recorded over a period of only seven days. Skip Spence plays all the instruments.

Please Please Me
Artist: The Beatles
$24. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Parlophone 2012 Reissue

The very first LP of the Beatles that set Beatlemania into motion. Recorded in just 13 hours, the Beatles blasted these songs out in an unprecedented fashion. Twist and Shout was the last song recorded and because John Lennon's voice was near shreds, they had to record it in one take. They did. Includes other songs that ended up on other US releases in the 1960's like "Meet the Bealtes", "Second Album", and more specifically "The Early Beatles".

Artist: The Replacements
$18. 98

Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Sire

Minneapolis' The Replacements, or better known as The 'Mats, with their 1987 release "Pleased". The first record sans Bob Stinson. Includes "I. O. U. ", "Nighclub Jitters", and "The Ledge". Recorded in Memphis, TN via the legacy of Big Star and Alex Chilton. Jim Dickinson producing the record. The horns on "Can't Hardly Wait" were an inspiration from the recording in Memphis. Listen to "Alex Chilton" where Paul Westerberg imagines all the great things that may have happened if Big Star and Alex Chilton had gained the fame they deserved, "an invisible man with an invisible voice". Truly, one of the great records of the 1980's.

Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes
Artist: The Ronettes
$23. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Sundazed Records

There's a wing in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame for singers like Ronnie Spector and her band the Ronettes for a reason. She's unbelievable. Despite Phil Spector being, what some say, certifiably crazy, he really was a mad genius. Behind his songwriting (with others) and his Wall of Sound production, these songs were really the template not only for "girl groups" but for rock n roll. Brian Wilson was a huge fan. The Beatles were enamored with girl groups and Wall of Sound groups and it was because of this, they hired Spector to produce their last record, "Let It Be". Included in this devastatingly good selection of tunes is "Walking In the Rain", "Baby, I Love You", "Chapel of Love", and one of the greatest vocal performances of all time, "Be My Baby". Keep listening to the Ronettes and Spector produced songs and you'll hear the influence in many other songs.

Revolver
Artist: The Beatles
$24. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: Gently Used
Label: Parlophone

The legendary 1966 release by The Beatles and remains of the best rock records of all time. It's nearly always in the conversation of best records of all time. Then there are those, who may not even say it's The Beatles best record! Highlights for us are "For No One" and "And Your Bird Can Sing". Reportedly, this is the Beatles answer to The Beach Boys "Pet Sounds". The cover art was by friend of The Beatles Klauss Voorman.

Just to be clear, this is the reissue of this Beatles record. They were all remastered and re-released in November of 2012. They are the original Parlophone UK pressings with the song sequence as The Beatles intended them to be released (as opposed to the Capital counterparts overseas). Revolver was the last LP where the song sequences were differed from the Capital US releases and the British Parlophone releases.

This single LP spans 16 songs that include "Esso Dame", "Hashish", "Hawk'N Around", "Jesse James" and, obviously, others. Find this in our New Vinyl rack or order it now. Rubber Soul
Artist: The Beatles
$24. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: Gently Used
Label: Parlophone

Originally released in December of 1965, Rubber Soul remains a landmark in rock music. How many records can boast an opening sequence of "Drive My Car", "Norwegian Wood", "You Won't See Me" and "Nowhere Man?" Also includes "In My Life" and George Harrison really shines with "If I Needed Someone". As it was in the those days in England, amazingly, there was no "single" released off of Rubber Soul. Cover shot by Robert Freeman.

Just to be clear, this is the reissue of this Beatles record. They were all remastered and re-released in November of 2012. They are the original Parlophone UK pressings with the song sequence as The Beatles intended them to be released (as opposed to the Capital counterparts overseas)

Sao Paulo
Artist: Deadstring Brothers
$18. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Bloodshot Records

Excellent 2009 release, "Sao Paulo", from the always great Deadstring Brothers who hail from that great garage rock capital of the world, Detroit, MI. Here's the blurb on the jacket from Paste Magazine: "Imagine Mick Jagger, Keith Richards & Gram Parsons in their primes, transplanted to Detroit, laid off at the Ford Plant, pissed off & ready to pound longnecks at the local saloon. " That description seems apt for this raw sounding rock record. There's just enough rawk and just enough twang to satisfy the palate of any alt.-country rock fan. Includes "The River Song", "Houston", "Smile" and "Adalee". Though still in stock, word on the street is that this may be out of print soon. Get it while you can. Includes bonus material not on the CD and a digital download of the entire record.

One of the many darlings of No Depression magazine return with their much anticipated release, "Scheherazade". Freakwater is what country music should sound like. Traveling with Freakwater may not be the simple chorus-by-number journey, but it's a trip worth traversing. The record includes a digital download.

$26. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Capital

What more can be said about the Beach Boys and the "Smile" record that has not already been said? There isn't, so we won't bore you with all this critic speak about the lost "Smile" sessions, Smiley Smile, Barenaked Ladies songs, sandboxes, or Brian Wilson's sanity. The original sessions from the original recordings have finally seen the light of day and here they are.  Awesome. This is the real deal, this is where the rubber hits the road, this ain't your "Fun, Fun, Fun" Beach Boys.

Somewhere Else
Artist: Lydia Loveless
$16. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Bloodshot

Easily one of the more anticipated releases in 2014 is "Somewhere Else" by Lydia Loveless. This is a driving rock record with just enough twang to give it that cow punk punch. This record got a ton of press, and deservedly so, upon its release. Here is what Paste Magazine had to say, "Lyrically, this is an album of blood and guts and emotions—anger and yearning and lust—that are so honest and immediate that they beg to be shared. The strength in Loveless’ vocals is how deftly she moves between tough and vulnerable, the emotions in both realms sincere and familiar." Upon its release on February 18, 2014, this was already an early, top candidate for album of the year at Rediscover Records. Yeah, we're big fans.

In our minds, one of the best records of the 1990s. Period. Add Uncle Tupelo to the list of bands that broke up before true fame or that the trends became trends after the fact. Some may say the Silver Jews are just a different creative outlet for Pavement's Stephen Malkmus, and they would not be wrong. Well, kinda wrong. Interesting to note, this records back and front cover were taken by renowned photographer William Eggleston (think Big Star's "Radio City"). "I don't see ghosts I don't believe in 13
I don't throw the tarot I don't follow astrology
but I get superstitious when it comes to you and me"

Begins the opening track by Elisa Ambrolio "Superstitious" and her 2014 release on the Drag City label "The Immoralist". Ambroglio wrote all the songs on this record and plays guitar and a lot of the instruments with help from Jason Quever on drums, bass, organ. Recorded largely in San Francisco, this LP also includes the songs, "Reservoir", "Clarient Queen", "Comers", "Kylie" and others. A very rootsy, organic sounding record and if you like a live sounding, if not lo-fi alternative (for lack of a better word) this may just be in your wheelhouse. The record was produced by Ambrogio and Quver. Find this and other Drag City releases in our New Vinyl racks.

One of the stone cold classic bands of all time, The Byrds. Their influence continues to this day with rock bands and indie rock bands with that 12 string guitar and/or jangly guitar sound. The title track never sounded better than on this mono release from Sundazed. Also has "He Was A Friend of Mine" and "Set You Free This Time" and others. Includes liner notes from Derek Taylor and produced by Terry Melcher, who incidentally was a friend of one Charles Manson. Look up Melcher's relationship to Manson and how it affected the Manson murders sometime.
