The 1996 release from Smog, which as you probably know is Bill Callahan. These sparse arrangements really pull you in close to listen in as Callahan weaves his stories with lyrics like, "you moved in to my hotel, you could have done better, but oh well" and a "juggling of vices, tiny tiny vices" or even "your buckles and straps, releases and traps" will have you playing the record again and each time, you'll get something else out of it. For some, it may not be a record that grabs you right away, but once it grabs you and you "get it" you may find Callahan's work dessert island disc material.
