A Ghost Is Born
Artist: Wilco
$26. 98

Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Nonesuch

With Wilco's "A Ghost Is Born" they continue to get further away from their alt-country and rock humble beginnings after the demise of Uncle Tupelo. This is not a bad thing at all, imagine if The Beatles continued to write songs like "Love Me Do" and didn't evolve into greatness like "I Am the Walrus". Perhaps Jeff Tweedy's finest hour exists on this record with "Not What You Think". While we are making Beatle comparisons, there is about 15 minutes of mindless noise on here that may remind most listeners of "Revolution #9". This, in our opinion, is where the record becomes, "A Ghost Is Bored". We just thought we'd throw that in there. We love Wilco!

A Hard Day's Night
Artist: The Beatles
$24. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Parlophone (2012 Reissue)

The third release from The Beatles. Beatlemania was a force that was not to be denied. The film, "A Hard Day's Night" was released to much acclaim and the Beatles acquited themselves as very fine actors. Oh, then there are the songs on AHDN. Some of their best early work and then there's Lennon's Gibson guitar work on this, especially on "I'll Be Back". The only Beatles release to be exclusively Lennon and McCartney compositions. No cover songs, no Harrison-penned songs.

This is the reissue from 2012 and is the UK pressing with the songs in sequence as the Beatles intended them to be, as opposed to the US version of AHDN released on United Artists label.

A Sailor's Guid to Earth
Artist: Sturgill Simpson
$22. 98
| Buy Now
Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Atlantic Records

In addition to being one of the best records of of 2016, in any genre, but file this under alt-country, country, rock, or just damn good music, it also includes a brooding cover of Nirvana's "In Bloom". If that's not worth the price of the record alone, I don't know what is. Also includes "Breakers Roar", "Sea Stories", "Oh Sarah" and others. Reading the liner notes on the back cover it states in all caps, TO BE PLAYED AT MAXIMUM VOLUME". More records that warrant this statement to to put this on their records. Pressed to 180 gram vinyl, this release instead of a DL includes a CD of the record. Pretty cool.

Abbey Road
Artist: The Beatles
$24. 98

Condition: New & Sealed
Label: Capital

This is the 2009 reissue of Abbey Road. A frequent customer has supplied this review. Thanks for shopping at Rediscover Records.

Abbey Road is (technically) the Beatles final bow to the beautiful world of rock they single-handedly created, and the one statement it seems to make is, despite the extreme evolutions they went through, they still had just as much songwriting prowess and prestige that they had to begin with. Never lost a step, never creatively stumbled. It also has a unique way of closing out the career with the medley slapped in the second half of the album. The medley consisted of songs The Beatles were working on, but would never finish. Somehow, they took these deconstructed works of art, and turned it into this beautiful, flowing accomplishment that finished them all, permanently branding them into musical history, just the way they were. When it begins, it feels hopeful and inspired. But the grand finale of 'The End' sadly dampers any hope of hearing more. And notes the fall of the greatest band in history. But 'Her Majesty' was Paul's way of saying, "I know it's sad. But here's something to cheer you up, at least a little." Possibly the most beautiful death of all time. Painfully bittersweet.

Bob Dylan's fourth record. "Another Side" often gets overlooked when discussing Dylan's canon and oeurve of work. This is spectacular storytelling and The Byrd's covered, it seems, half of these songs including "Chimes Of Freedom" and "All I Really Wanna Do". On Side Two of "Another Side" you'll hear some of the more honest, heart-wrenching storytelling of all time with "Ballad In Plain D". Solo release by longtime experimental, noise, electronica and improv sound guru, Jim O'Rourke on the Chicago-based Drag City label. The DePaul alumni and former Chicago resident (who has since relocated to Tokyo) is quite synonomous with that sound after working with bands like Sonic Youth, Red Krayola, Wilco, Lee Ranaldo, Superchunk, Joanna Newsom and others. This particular record is an instrumental record of O'Rourke's guitar playing much in the style of someone like John Fahey. This LP is reportedly a favorite of Wilco front man, Jeff Tweedy.

Condition: Compact Disc
Label: Belvederes Music dot com

Round for round, pound for pound, easily, one of the best area bands in around! Live show workhorses, the Belverderes have certainly honed their craft and have brought that sound to their new record "Beggar's Heart". A well-paced sequence of 11 original songs (and a great cover of "13 Skirts") that include crowd favorites "Beggar's Heart", "Every Single Word", "Closed Doors" and "When I Made You Mine". If you are reading this in the Chicago area, go see them live. They'll absolutely nail just about any cover they attempt and the original material is as good as any rock n roll/Americana you'll find today. They are students of multiple genres so you are just as likely to hear George Jones, followed by Tom Petty, to Steve Earle, Buddy Guy, to Elvis Costello, and their soul medley will remind you of all the greats, like Otis Redding and other Stax artists. Then, just when you think the soul medley is about to end...they keep it going, ala Springsteen with the "Devil With the Blue Dress" medley. Prisoners of rock n roll? You bet your ass. They've played everywhere in the area from Fitzgerald's in Berwyn to right here at Rediscover Records. It's with great pride that on Record Store Day 2015 they played this album from beginning to end, long before the fall of 2015 release date. Released on Compact Disc, we're the Go-To store for The Belvederes latest release!

While we don't normally tell people to go elsewhere for music on our site, we want you to hear this band. If you're more of the digital or streaming set, if you do not live near Rediscover Records, "Beggar's Heart" is available on iTunes, CD Baby, and Spotify. Buy it digitally and give it a listen!

They were leaving the alt. and the country in alt-country. Included in this release is "Misunderstood", "Far, Far Away", "The Lonely 1", "Red-Eyed and Blue", "I Got You", and "Hotel Arizona". This is the reissue on vinyl on 180g vinyl.

As the LP sticker says, "A soul screamer of the highest order. The Savages lay down a groovy racket so thick and greasy, you'll need a moist towlette near the Hi-Fi".

Includes "The Corner Man", "Bread", "Blackjack", "Show Me Baby", and "Sugar". Also includes a MP3 of the entire record. Get this, you will not be disappointed. Think Stax, think Motown, but amped up past 11. By the way, the Savages here are no way to be confused with the indie rock darlings, Savages. Something tells us these Savages are more the true definition of the word itself.
